Friday's Fabulous Finds....Let's Dress Up!

It's that time of year when high school girls are all giddy and giggly and excited about prom.  They're shopping for dresses, jewelry, shoes, purses and deciding what to do with their hair.  I miss the days when Erin and I would head to the mall searching for the perfect dress.

When I came across this dress I fell in love with it immediately.  It's pink, my most favorite color, and is just beyond beautiful!  So I thought it would be fun to look on Etsy for all the accessories needed to go with it for a fabulous night out!

Isn't it fun playing dress up?  When was the last time you got really dressed up for a night out?

Williamsburg Getaway

After planned trips to Arkansas and Savannah were cancelled, we finally were able to get away to Williamsburg, VA for a few days.  And what a difference a few days makes!  Erin and I were able to forget about the sadness and seriousness in our lives and have some fun!

We've done the sightseeing in the past, so this trip was all about shopping therapy!  We went to the outlets, the antique center, the shops at Merchants Square, a quilt shop, a linens shop, and of course the Yankee Candle Shop.

Now the Yankee Candle Shop is not your typical little candle store at the mall.  No...this place is like a little village of delightful shops just beckoning the visitor to come inside!  There is the candle store, a general store, a toy store, a stuffed animal store, a home and garden store and a Christmas Village, which is my favorite!

There's a big clock that opens up and the animated characters tell a story about time.  If you look just below the clock, you will see how many days til Christmas!  And just below that is a train track with a train that weaves in and out of the shops.  Shylee loved all of this!

My favorite place is the Christmas village.  You walk in and it's dark with a twinkling sky and lighted trees everywhere!  The little shops inside are themed with every kind of ornament and decoration you can imagine!  There is the Dept 56 shop, Snowbabies shop, German Christmas, Country Christmas and so much more.  The very best thing is that it snows every 10 minutes!!!  This fascinated Shylee!!

My favorite was the German shop.  I loved our Christmases in Germany and this shop always brings back those great memories.

I think this was Shylee's favorite place!  We wore her out!

I highly recommend visiting the Yankee Candle shop if you're ever in Williamsburg.  You don't even have to like candles to have a good time!
Have a wonderful Tuesday!!!

Wednesday's Words of Wisdom...

Every day may not be good, but there's something good in every day ~ Author Unknown

The last couple of weeks, and especially the last few days, have been tough at our house.  It started when my daughter's friend passed away in a motorcycle accident.  We cancelled our trip to Arkansas to visit family because she wasn't up to it, so we planned a shorter trip to Savannah, GA and would have left yesterday but for some unexpected news...again.

It seems my daddy has bladder cancer.  He will be having surgery next week to remove the tumors and determine what stage he's in.  This news is still sinking in.  In the meantime, my husband is having tests done on his neck and chest because of lumps there.  The one on his neck is a fatty cyst and most likely benign.  The lump in his chest is possibly the same thing but we won't know til next week.

Erin and I are leaving this morning for Williamsburg, VA for three days.  It's much closer to home and although it will be much shorter than the last two trips planned, it will be good to get away for a little while and it will help the time go by faster!

I don't know why I'm telling you about all of this.  I'm rambling and probably sharing too much information but  I guess I want you to know why I haven't posted or left comments on your blogs.  Please know that I'm still reading your posts and trying to keep up but you may or may not hear from me as often for a while!

Remember to look for something good every day.....I know I will!

Friday's Fabulous Finds....Etsy Edibles!

I admit it...I always have food on the brain!  When my daughter sent me a link to red velvet cookies on Etsy, I knew this would be my next fabulous finds feature!  Take a look at Etsy's Edibles!

Are you drooling all over the computer yet?  I think I gained five pounds just looking at all the goodies to feature!  And to think this is just the sweet stuff!  I'll have to do another post featuring the spices, breads, jellies, jams, sauces, dip mixes, crackers, honey.....you get the idea!  I had no idea there was so much food on Etsy.  I think I'll go make some brownies now!

Have a fabulous Friday!!!

Say What?!

Every once in a while I like to check the stats on my blog.  It's quite interesting to see who visits and from where.  It's especially interesting and fun to see what key words are used to land people here at So Many Memories.  Here's just a few:

Memories of mash (not in MY memory)
Shylee is memories (well, no she's just a toddler)
Sewing room mistakes (LOL...remember?)  these photos are also the most searched on this blog!
Why are there so many memories in my head (uhhhh, hmmmm, I don't know)
Devon build snowman (no clue how this relates to this blog)
Dish towel dress to fit 9 year old (mine are one size fits all ovens)
Grandma fairy in rocking chair (must be related to devon build snowman)

Have a wonderful Thursday!!!

Mish Mash Monday

Two weeks ago I received my CPAP (continuous postivie airway pressure) machine for treating my sleep apnea.  I used it the first week and did okay....I have mixed feelings about it.  Last week I didn't use it because I was so stopped up and was coughing a lot.  I'll probably write a full post on this in the near future, but for now this is what I have to wear every night so I don't stop breathing!!!
Really lovely, don't you think??  And before you ask.....no, that's not me!  I maybe, might think about taking my picture for that future post!

Tomorrow night is the Bon Jovi concert I won't be going to...sniff, sniff.  I bought those tickets in November and was really looking forward to it.  My nephew and his wife will be taking mine and Erin's place with my sisters for a really fun night.  I think I'll put on all my CD's and at least have a Bon Jovi music marathon!

I will be listing these lavender sachets later today.

Janet over at The Empty Nest is alway cooking up something good and sharing her recipes.  Every Friday is Pieday and I made this wonderful sausage and potatoe quiche.
And this incredible Cauliflower and Broccoli Casserole.  I'm not able to link to this recipe but you can find it at The Empty Nest dated March 22, 2010.
Both were really, really good and even Shylee liked them!  We will definitely be having them again!  Thanks Janet!

My Etsy mini is being featured at DZ Fantasy for the month of April along with several other minis from Etsy!  Donna has the most fun and whimsical shop and blog!  You'll find the most delightful fantasy fiber sculptures of fairies, mermaids and jewelry!

Be sure to check out Donna's shop and blog!

Have a marvelous Monday!!!!

Friday's Fabulous Finds....Quilts

National Quilting Day was March 20th this year.  I was out of town and had limited internet access or I would have done this post on that day.  I LOVE quilts!  I have loved them since I was a little girl visiting relatives and sleeping either on top of quilt pallets or under the warmth of a handmade quilt.  I took a quilting class many years ago and made a few wall hangings.  I didn't do any quilting for a long time until Shylee came along.  You can see the quilt I'm making her here.  I'm enjoying the hand quilting and don't know why I waited so long to make another one.  Anyway, if you do a search for quilts on Etsy, you won't be disappointed with what you find.  Here are a few of my favorites!

I hope you have a fabulous Friday!!!!

Life Happens....

You know that saying, "while we're busy making plans, life happens".  My daughter Erin, Shylee and I were supposed to leave yesterday on a road trip to Arkansas.  Instead, Erin went to NY for a funeral and I've had Shylee since Saturday.  She was home all of 4 days before she came back to me!!

Remember last week when I had her?  You can read about it here.  This week has been so much better.  The tantrums have been only 2-3 times a day and I even ventured out with her on Tuesday because it was her birthday!  We went shopping for some new outfits and a booster seat for meal times since she doesn't like the high chair.  She will be leaving me tomorrow night which is a good thing because my husband gave me his cold and it's going to get worse before it gets better.

We celebrated Shylee's second birthday on Saturday.  She was the center of attention and loved every minute of it!!!

If we go to Arkansas, we won't make it in time for the Bon Jovi concert.  I guess I can console myself with memories of the concert my sister and I went to almost 4 years ago!  Oh well.....there will be other concerts and other trips and I had a good time with my sweet pea this week!  Life happens and we refocus and go on.

Have a wonderful Thursday!!!

Wednesday's Words of Wisdom....A Mother's Love

A mother's love for her child is like nothing else in the world.
It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down
remorselessly all that stands in its path
~ Agatha Christie

My heart breaks for by daughter today.  On Monday she traveled to Buffalo, New York to attend today's funeral of a friend who died last week in a motorcycle accident.  It's very sad, as he leaves behind a wife, a 4 year old daughter and a 2 week old baby boy.  My daughter, Erin, took this very hard.

When our children are little, we have the 'mom power' to fix eveything.  That is everything from a scraped knee, to hurt feelings, to broken bicycles,  to last minute projects requiring something you don't have on hand.  When  my kids were being bullied, it was very hard not to go do some bullying myself.  There's nothing we moms wouldn't do to help or protect our children.

My heart breaks today because I can't fix this.  My hugs and kisses can't make it all better even though I gave her lots of them.  This has been the hardest part of having grown children.  We give them wings to fly from the nest into the world where they learn what life is all about.  The most I can do is pray for them and never let them forget I am there for them no matter what.
