I've Been In The Sewing Room

I have been busy lately and actually have something to show for it!  My blog friend, Alyssa, from Alygatr's Everywhere, sent out a request for handmade items for a fund raiser her husband's company is having.  I was so happy to make a donation and I'm really excited to show you what I made! 

First is a set of two reversible placemats with a fall theme.  I figured the fall leaves and colors would appeal to more people than everyday designs.

Next is a lavender sachet made from some scrap fabric, a piece of vintage lace, decorative stitching and little pearl seed beads. 

 And last is another lavender sachet that I so enjoyed making.  For a long time I have loved the layered, torn and tattered look and have been thinking of ways to use it with the things I make.  I chose another piece of scrap fabric, vintage lace and buttons, embroidered a piece of gauze like fabric and stitched it all together.  It came out like this



I've made some other goodies too, but I'll save them for another post!

How 'Bout Some Orange!

Today I'm joining in the blog party 'I Made It' at Everything Etsy!  Click on the button and join the fun.  There are so many creative and inspiring people out there!

Do you remember these placemats?

They were in my Etsy shop and sold a couple of weeks ago.  They came in a set of two and when the customer received them she decided she wanted two more.  Of course I was more than happy to oblige but the problem was I couldn't find the same fabric anywhere.  After some messages back and forth, she decided on a bright orange color with lime green topstitching!

I bought the fabric, pre-washed it, ironed it, measured it,

cut it,

pinned it,

                           

sewed it up,

                           

turned it right side out and pressed it,

                             

topstitched it

and it was done!

                           

And just look how beautiful it looks with the fabric of the fruity placemats!

I certainly wouldn't win any awards for the quality of the pictures, but trust me when I say the orange was a perfect match and looks great!  I'm not a big orange fan but I love how these turned out!

A Glimpse of Things to Come

Fabric is my weakness.  Addiction might be a better word.  If I know there is a fabric store in the vicinity of where I am, I can hear it calling my name, beckoning me to walk through the doors.  You see, if I go in, I'm not coming out empty handed!  How could I?  The colors, patterns and textures conspire to make me fall in love with them and bring them home!  Just look at what I was recently forced thrilled to bring home and call my own!

This fun fabric will be reservisible placemats. (I think!)  Really perfect for a coffee themed kitchen.

I found a quilt shop in Williamsburg and wasn't about to leave empty handed!  However, I did leave with an empty wallet!  Probably, these will become placemats or maybe an apron or two.  Haven't quite decided yet.

Here's a glimpse of a project I've already started working on.  I found the vintage table scarf in Williamsburg and the fabric after I came home.  I can't wait to show you the finished project.  It's something new for me but something I've wanted to do for a very long time!  I hope it turns out!

Here's something else I found in Williamsburg at the antique center.  It's not vintage but that's ok!  The important thing is that it was only $8.50 and was perfect for another project I've been wanting to try!

 That should be enough to keep me busy for a while.  If only I didn't have to do the laundry, clean the house, cook meals, run errands......

Mish Mash Monday

Here it is Monday again already!  I've been busy with Shylee all week while her parents went to a gaming convention and I'm on the verge of exhaustion!  She is busy, busy, busy doing the things toddlers do including throwing temper tantrums!  I'm talking screams that come close to shattering the windows, banging the head on the wall, floor, table or Grandma's leg, throwing herself on the floor and writhing, kicking, and thrashing about, throwing whatever her little hand can get hold of.  So we found a nice little corner for time out and she spends a good amount of time there!  These tantrums go on all day long.    Her mama is picking her up tomorrow!!!!!

Before Shylee came, I started on a pair of placemats and got one of them done.  I hope to finish the other one and list it in the Etsy shop by the end of the week.  This set coordinates with one of the dish towel dresses I made a while back.

After Shylee leaves, I will be getting ready for a road trip to Arkansas next week to visit family and go to a Bon Jovi concert!  I'm soooo excited!!!!!!!!!

Friday's Fabulous Finds...Easter Eggs

After several days of glorious sunshine and temps in the 60's, we have rain, fog and cooler temps today.  The nice weather was wonderful while it lasted!  With rain forcasted for the next few days, I guess I'll be staying in and get some things done!  I managed to make some Easter placemats and get them listed in the shop.
