Focus On Life~Week 9~Knock, Knock

This weeks prompt from Sally.

Let's open some doors to see what awaits us on the other side.
Is it a door that holds opportunity?
Is it a door that holds a story?
Is it a door you have been hesitating to open?
Is it a gate to a new life?
A door to a new adventure?
Is it a door that holds a memory?
Is it the perfect door for a simple picture?
You have arrived at the door for a reason, open it up and step in!

This is the front door of my house.  When we drove up to the house with the realtor, I fell in love with the door.  It wasn't long after we bought the house before my feelings changed.  It's like having an open window for everyone to see inside.  I like my privacy and I feel like I don't have it with this door.  We talked about replacing it but it fits so well with the house that a typical door would just take away from the overall look of the home.  I never would have dreamed that I would have such a love hate relationship with the front door of my house!

To see other doors visit Sally's blog,  The Studio Sublime.

Have a wonderful weekend!

  2. It is a lovely door! Why not dress it with something inside that gives you a little sense of more privacy?

  3. Your door kind of speaks "peacefulness within" I like the feeling.

  4. But I *LOVE* your front door!

  5. I love the detail in your front door. If you dislike it so much you could put in etched glass, or possibly a semi sheer curtain inside which would give you a sense of privacy but not take away all the light.

  6. it is indeed a beautiful door! we have a curtain to pull across our front door - mainly to keep out drafts, but it adds to privacy too :)

  9. I had glass doors in a rural home in Sakatchewan... the front and back doors lined up perfectly and you could see right through the house!

In the picture it looks like textured glass, so can you really see in or is it just blurred movement people see?

  10. What a beautiful entrance to your home. But I understand what you mean about the lack of privacy. No quietly going to the door to look out the peephole before deciding if you want to answer the door! But I bet it lets in a lot of wonderful light during the day.

  11. OH! I know what you mean! When I lived in SF it is typical for the doors to have a lot of glass ... and mine did. I also loved the look, but hated the lack of privacy. Also, I was worried about safety in a big city. But I did love that door. And your's is beautiful

  12. Beautiful! I totally get you, we have a door with panes along the top 2/3 with no frost or design or anything! I'll eventually add something to the panes but couldn't think of replacing it.

  13. I get your concern for lack of privacy, but I would love to have that much light coming into my house. I've been contemplating getting a door similar to yours for a while. . .but now you've got me thinking that I just need a glass storm door to go over my solid one instead ;)

  14. Such a beautiful door! I have the same situation and love the light it brings in during the day but hate the lack of privacy at night. Yours is very inviting though.

  15. When I saw this photo I thought, "Oh my goodness,...what a gorgeous door!" And, although it is super gorgeous, I think I would feel the same as you do w/the entire privacy thing. It's still lovely though. :-)

  16. It is a beautiful door but I also understand how it could make you feel "exposed". Could you put a curtain on the inside??

  17. It's pretty and looks very much like it fits the style of the home. I do understand about the privacy factor, but I'm sure the light it lets in is just lovely!

  18. What a beautiful front door...my mother would be in love with it!
But I can see how it would let lots of eyes in!

  19. I love your door - think of all the light it lets in! We had glass (dentist glass, according to hubby) panels next to our door and we opted to get a new door. The panels are gone and I miss the added light. :)

  20. Your door is beautiful but I hear you about the lack of privacy. When mom and I were looking for doors for the extension she asked if I wanted a windowed door and that was a big resounding NO!

  21. You have a beautiful front door. I understand what you are saying about the lack of privacy though.

  22. Gosh I can imagine how you feel. It's a gorgeous door, but I'd want to be decide if I want to be visible or not.

  25. What a gorgeous door! Though I would have to put curtains up.

  26. Annette, I can see why you fell in love with your home! And I can absolutely relate to this post. I have a very similar door - and one can see all the way in to my kitchen if they wanted to! I was just remarking about this with a friend yesterday. I do think one of these days I'll cover the side windows with something sheer.

  27. It sure is beautiful! I think you can put up blinds on it. We had that on an old garage door, and it worked just fine.

  28. The house across the street from us has a similar door. I agree with you totally, one day I drool and the next, think about prying eyes.

  29. I know how you feel, we have glass panels either side of our front door and I have often thought about putting up lace curtains but never got around to it, it is really hard to :hide" from people when they knock at the door, LOL!!! :)

    Have a lovely day, cheers, T. :)
