Thankful Thursday

Every Thursday I share what I'm thankful for.  Sometimes it's a serious or big thing, and sometimes it's a goofy or small thing.  I believe that no matter what is going on in our lives, there is always something to be thankful for.  Always.

I believe that every day we wake up and get out of bed is a gift.  I think most of us just see it as another day to get through with all of our obligations, jobs, chores, kids, and expectations to manage.  But when you take time to notice what is around you, you will begin to realize that even the little things in the midst of a stressful, busy, chaotic day are gifts and we should take the time to be thankful for them.

Even things that are annoying can be worthy of gratitude when you look at them differently.  Take my husband's snoring for example.  As I laid in bed last night wishing he would just be quiet for 5 minutes, I realized his snoring meant he was alive and still with me.  It meant he was in my bed and not someone else's.  I was very thankful in that moment of frustration and fell asleep quickly after.

I'm also thankful for
     *  the way the sunlight shines through the lace curtains leaving a pretty pattern on the wall
     *  music that touches my heart and makes me weepy
     *  the aromas from a home cooked meal
     *  hot water to take a shower
     * a phone call from my son telling me he's coming to visit

What are you thankful for today?

  1. What wonderful things to be thankful for! I'll have to take your lovely example and try to think of it next time my husbands snoring is keeping me up! ;-)

    This week...
After having a migraine (something thankfully I don't get often) I was very thankful for my prescription and a much needed day of rest in bed.

My boys who always make me laugh.

A funny attempt with my son & I trying to two-step in the kitchen. Teenagers! :-)

  3. Ah,Annette, I love the way you think and I am going to think about that tonight as I am jabbing the husband with my elbow!
I am thankful that tomorrow the husband celebrates a milestone birthday and does not seem to be too bothered by it.

  4. I you make such a wonderful point here. I have to remind myself that when I do the dishes...I am grateful for the food we eat and the water to clean the dishes with :)

  5. You are so right about being thankful every day for even the little things or things that might be frustrating (like my own husband's very loud snoring).

I make a point to thank God each evening and morning for things both big and small.

  6. what a lovely, thoughtful post! I have always loved the little snores of my kids ... when they were really little it meant I was 'off duty' and could go to sleep. And I find that over time it is just a peaceful sound to me and helps me drift off to sleep. I am so thankful for the privileged of being my girl's mom.

  7. Those are all lovely things to be thankful for. Sometimes even the little things that we find annoying have a flip side that make us second think things, then we smile and count them as yet another one of our many blessings. :)

  8. Way to see the positives in the negatives, that is very inspiring :)

I do take time everyday to be grateful for what I have (before I get too immersed in what I am not happy with, LOL!!! :)

I can relate to your joy about your son coming to visit :)

    Have a lovely weekend, cheers, T. :)

  9. What a great post! I also have a hubby who snores, but to me it is a reassuring sound. My grandpa also snored when he took his afternoon nap--so I guess I've always associated it with a kind man resting.
