Today I'm Just Thankful

Last week I was so busy that I didn't realize until Friday that I completely missed doing a Thankful Thursday post.  I settled in my comfy recliner with my laptop ready to share the thankfulness.  I turned on the TV, which I rarely do during the day, and all thoughts of writing a blog post quickly diminished.

The tragedy that occurred in Newtown, CT that day still weighs heavy on my heart.  So much so that sharing anything else just seems so trivial.  So I've been silent.  Reflecting on my life and how I live it.  Wondering what I can do to make a difference in this crazy world.  One thing I know for sure is that I am thankful.

I'm thankful for
     *  my faith in God and the comfort I receive from Him
     *  the way people come together to help each other in the aftermath of a tragedy or disaster
     *  love, in all it's forms
     *  every single person in my life
     *  the loving arms of my husband who makes me feel safe

Today, I'm just thankful.

  1. Well said. It has been a heart heavy week for the whole country, the whole world really. I too have stepped away from my blog - other things seems trivial compared to what happened and what all those families and that whole town are going through.

I work in a school and it has weighed heavy on all of us teachers, thinking what would we have done, the fear, the anguish, the prayers, the strength they showed.

Our school decorated snowflakes to be sent and hung up at the school(s) that will be taking in the students. It's such a small gesture, but it was nice to do a little something - no matter how small.

I agree with you wholeheartedly - I'm just thankful this week.

  5. It is very difficult to wrap your mind around a tragedy like that. I finally realized the only thing I could "do" was to focus harder on looking for opportunities to be kind to someone. I know that there are no number of acts of kindness that will errase the pain those families are feeling but "be the change you want to see in the world" is ringing in my ears.

  6. I felt the same way too.

It is too sad and overwhelming and I think it truly hit everyone of us.

My heart breaks for those families.

  8. I know this is awhile after the tragic event but even now the memory causes deep pangs within my heart. So sad that in a blink of an eye so many lives were shattered, the broken hearts left behind will never be totally healed, no matter how much time goes by.
One thing it did do was make us realize that Christmas is not about the presents, or the feasts, it is about our loved ones - our children and our hopes for their futures.
