As some of you know, I injured my knee and had surgery last year. It took a long time to recover and I still am not able to stand or walk for long periods of time. A few weeks ago, I experienced pain in the other knee that never quite went away. Last week, as I started up the stairs to go to bed, that same knee popped and I couldn't walk. Thank goodness for sofa beds and crutches!
It turns out I probably tore something, but the arthritis is so bad in that knee that repairing the tear wouldn't help. The bottom line is that I need a knee replacement in both knees. In the meantime though, I got a cortisone shot in the knee and it feels pretty wonderful! I'll be getting a different kind of shot in the other knee in a few weeks and maybe I won't have to have the surgery for a few months. Here's hoping anyway!
I'm sorry for being so absent and not visiting all the wonderful blogs I follow. I'm hoping to get caught up with you soon.

So sorry Annette! :( That's just awful for you. Thank goodness for the injections to take the edge off the pain and help you get around in the meantime. I know a total knee replacement is quite the journey. I know this both from school and from a co-worker that had one done last year, but the results can be wonderful. I hope in the meantime, the doctors can keep it manageable for you.

Annette, I am so sorry to hear your other knee has started to give you problems. At least it is nice to know that they are able to do something for the pain.
ReplyDeleteNo one likes to go through surgery and I've heard that knee replacement surgery takes time to recuperate from. I've known a couple of people who have had knee replacements, one had both knees done (he had bad knees due to old sports injuries - when he was much younger he played high school and college football). He said it took some time to recover but afterwards he was able to do so much more and was pain free.
Take it easy and take care. :)
