Another Doll Quilt

I realized that I never did show you the finished doll quilt I made for Shylee.  This is the first applique quilt I've made and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  For about three seconds, I considered keeping it for myself as a wall hanging, but Shylee knew it was for her!  I guess that means I have to make another one!

My favorite part is the tree trunk.  I love how it looks like real bark.  I also like the tiny buttons in the center of the flowers.  I didn't plan to use them, but when the flowers were done, they just needed something more.  This was such a fun project and Shylee was thrilled...and that made this grandma happy!

I hope you have a spectacular weekend!

Learning As I Go

I just love having my fabric in a cabinet where I can see everything I have.  It makes it so much fun and easier to pull fabrics for a project instead of digging through bags that are scattered everywhere.

I thought I had this little quilt all figured out, but when I pulled the fabric for each part of the quilt, I decided I didn't like the red fabric for the bird.  It was too dark and didn't stand out enough with the brown fabric for the tree or the green for the leaves.  But the bright orange fabric just popped and tied all the other colors together.

I've never done a project like this so I'm learning as I go.  For instance, I should have read the fine print on the fabric adhesive.  If I had, I would have realized it isn't meant for sewing.  Thankfully I didn't adhere anything to the blue fabric, but I did use it on the bird.  And I got the sticky stuff all over the ironing board cover and it won't come off.  Even after washing, it's still sticky.  So, after getting a sewing friendly adhesive and new cover, I'm ready to start again.

Have you tried anything new lately?

I've Been Playing

I've been trying to decide what to do for Shylee's second baby doll quilt and I think I've settled on an idea.  She likes to draw pictures of the sun and flowers so I thought I would go in that direction. The colors might change for the border.  It will depend on my mood when I get to that part!!

I got a new toy!  It's the AccuQuilt Go fabric cutter.  I've wanted one for a long time and it finally went on sale at JoAnn's.  Gotta love those sales!  It came with a square and triangle die, and I got the rose and a bird die.  I can't wait to play some more and get started on the doll quilt.

Have a great Thursday!

A Little Doll Quilt

As I said in this post here, Shylee loved her baby doll quilt!  I sure enjoyed working on it.  It was a great way to use scraps, although I didn't make a dent in the scrap box!  This one went home with her and I'm going to make another one for the baby dolls here at Grandma's house.  I'm thinking about doing an applique quilt although I've never done applique before.  Actually, I tried applique once before, a very long time ago, and it was just a mess.  There are so many ways to do applique now that I'm willing to try it again.  Maybe.

Have you tried anything new lately?

Focus On Life Week 12 ~ Expression

This week we are focusing on expression.  Whether it's someone by themselves, interacting with others or with their animals, the way a person expresses themselves is interesting.  I was looking forward to this prompt because I could think of all kinds of shots I wanted to get.  It just seems like when I'm looking for a shot I just don't see it!  It came right down to the wire with my granddaughter.  I made her a baby doll quilt and an apron and she came this afternoon to spend the weekend, so I was able to give her the gifts.  I think her expression shows how she felt about the quilt.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Getting Started

I pulled out some fabric scraps and cut 120 squares for the first baby doll quilt.  It won't be anything fancy, just a scrappy patchwork.  Except maybe I'll add some lace or ribbon or buttons, because I don't think I'll be able to resist!

What are you working on?

Happy Thursday!
