I was up until 4 a.m. this morning finishing Jane Austen's, Emma. I loved it! This was the first book I've read by this author and I wasn't disappointed.
Emma sets out to match making and fails miserably. Although her heart is in the right place, she sees what she wants to see and is able to fit it all neatly into her schemes. The characters in her circle are delightful, snobbish, annoying, eccentric and endearing. Not unlike the people we find in our own circles today! In all her scheming and rationalizations, she learns some things about herself and finally realizes she is in love with the man who tells her like it is.
This book was truly a good read and I'm now officially a Jane Austen fan!
Welcome to the world of Jane Austin. Don't stop now - you have to read them all.

Welcomed to the club!!! I adore Jane and love to listen to her during my 7 hour drives to NY...God bless audio books! If you ever want a good film version, you must buy or rent the BBC production of Pride & Prejudice starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. Just Wonderful!!! I also love Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson (Academy Award winning screenplay by Emma T. ) I have read the books and love the films also because I adore the fashion and wonderful English estates...pure visual candy ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh Yes!!! I have read these over and over and I have to pick Pride and Predjudice as my favorite. I love the version with Keira Knightly heres a clip !

It is a great rainy day girlygirl movie !
Ack !!!...I'll post it to facebook !
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing you're going to keep reading her novels? I'd save Pride & Prejudice for last.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I've not ready any of her books. That truly is embarrassing for a supposed bibliophile to admit. Sad but true. I have, though, read "The Jane Austen Book Club." ;o)
ReplyDeleteFunny, I my undergrad was in English Lit and I never liked Emma. I also hated Romeo and Juliet...always have, so maybe it's just me! I always found her shallow. Sense and Sensibility is my all time Jane Austin fav, with Pride and Prejudice being the second. I'm looking forward to reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies...not by Jane Austin :)
ReplyDeleteI love Jane Austen books. It's amazing how fun they actually are to read. I was really surprised that they were my style.
