Wednesday's Words of Wisdom....A Mother's Love

A mother's love for her child is like nothing else in the world.
It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down
remorselessly all that stands in its path
~ Agatha Christie

My heart breaks for by daughter today.  On Monday she traveled to Buffalo, New York to attend today's funeral of a friend who died last week in a motorcycle accident.  It's very sad, as he leaves behind a wife, a 4 year old daughter and a 2 week old baby boy.  My daughter, Erin, took this very hard.

When our children are little, we have the 'mom power' to fix eveything.  That is everything from a scraped knee, to hurt feelings, to broken bicycles,  to last minute projects requiring something you don't have on hand.  When  my kids were being bullied, it was very hard not to go do some bullying myself.  There's nothing we moms wouldn't do to help or protect our children.

My heart breaks today because I can't fix this.  My hugs and kisses can't make it all better even though I gave her lots of them.  This has been the hardest part of having grown children.  We give them wings to fly from the nest into the world where they learn what life is all about.  The most I can do is pray for them and never let them forget I am there for them no matter what.

  1. Oh Annette, I feel so for Erin but you too! I can so relate to this.

Our kids have had to deal with college buddies dying in freak accidents, friends taken too early with cancer, loving parents of close friends dying too soon. I think nothing prepares us for this, regardless of the saying "Death is part of life" we just have to believe there is a greater power that we can trust.

Thinking of you all at this time, T.

  2. I have felt these same feelings so many times ...It is so hard isn't it? We can just be there for them. Thanks for a thoughtful post...;-)

  4. Oh dear! I feel for the mom that is left with two small children. Will keep your daughter and the family in my prayers today. It was much easier when we could just kiss everything better :)

  5. Annette - I feel so sad for your daughter and her friend's family. There is no way to stop the hurt as we both know. Your being there for her is all you can do right now. She needs you now (and your hugs) even though she doesn't know how to say it.

  6. It is so hard not to be able to fix things. But in these times we get to see if we taught them the things they needed to bear bad days of life. We can just pray for them and hope that the values and strengths that we tried to instill are there for them to rely on when they need them.
